Academics

Chesapeake Christian School believes that within every student there is a God-given plan and a person of promise.  Because of this, it is our intent to help each student develop to their fullest potential by offering a quality education with Christ at its center.

It is the goal of Chesapeake Christian School to:

  • Provide students with the highest educational opportunity possible.
  • Provide a disciplined and structured setting in a loving, Christian environment.
  • To challenge and encourage each student mentally, physically, spiritually, and socially.
  • To provide the basic fundamentals of education while instilling the principles upon which our nation was founded, including integrity, respect for country and fellow man, appreciation for democracy and freedom, morality, faith, hope, and a reverence and love of God, Who is the center of all truth and education.
Chesapeake Christian School utilizes faith based educational tools from A Beka Book for the Christian School. It is our goal, as is our teaching resource, to lead students to Christ, teach them Biblical truths, Christian character, and traditional subject matter. With a traditional, Christian approach to education, A Beka Book supplies our school with the materials to reach and train students for Christ.

Our curriculum includes year round instructions of classic and contemporary literature, grammar, penmanship, phonics for the younger grades, mathematics, science, art, music, physical education, bible studies, spanish, social studies and community service. Our full-year curriculum schedule provides our children with routine and regular expectations of consistent performance.

It is also our belief that students learn best in small class room ratios, utilizing teaching methods which ensure a consistent level of comprehension, competency for each individual student. We have also found that at times some students may need reinforcement or advancement in a particular subject and we will place them accordingly.

Because Chesapeake Christian School is a K4-12th grade school, it creates a sense of family, community, and siblings who would not normally otherwise be able to attend school together. We have found when families are together, older children accept and demonstrate a level of school leadership and are role models for our younger children.

What Makes Us Different:

What makes us different at Chesapeake Christian School is the fact that all of our teachers and staff are Christians and are here because we want to be.  We love our children and desire the best for them.  It is our greatest desire that each and every person that comes through our doors has the opportunity to see Jesus.

Curriculum Examples

  • Grade 4 Language: God’s Gift of Language A emphasizes usage and the writing process. Students are given extensive instruction in writing book reports, letters, and an encyclopedia report. There are also a number of creative writing exercises and an excellent section on using the dictionary and the encyclopedia. Traditional grammar training continues as students learn to recognize all eight parts of speech; identify simple and compound subjects and verbs; diagram subjects, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs; and learn simple rules for correct word usage and subject/verb agreement.
  • Grade 11 US History This positive, patriotic approach to American history brings to life events and personalities that have shaped America and places a special emphasis on America’s Christian past. Heritage of Freedom rejects the conflict approach of Marxist historians (and progressive educators and liberal newsmen) to give a narrative account of what has made our country great and what can keep it great.

A rich variety of colorful photographs, illustrations, maps, and time lines enhance the teaching and learning of American history. Comprehensive reviews concluding each chapter aid in reinforcing the material. Key terms are highlighted. A “Study Guide for Reading the Constitution” helps students better understand this important document.
  • Grade 1 Arithmetic: Using delightful themes and full-color illustrations, Arithmetic 1 presents concepts in an orderly manner, building on prior learning and including consistent year-long review. Concepts include counting, writing and reading numbers, place value, addition and subtraction, money, graphs, measurement, time, temperature, and fractions. Applications to real world situations and daily Thinking Caps stretch students’ thinking ability. The 342-page workbook is perforated and includes classwork and seatwork pages for every day based around themes of the zoo, ocean, farm, and springtime.
